Compton Christmas parade Saturday

 

Compton, CA – The City of Compton will host its 2023 Compton Christmas Parade, Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. The parade route will commence at Compton Boulevard and Bullis Road with participants and viewers lining up down Compton Boulevard through the end of the parade route at Alameda Street.

 

The Compton Christmas Parade has become a cherished tradition for the city, celebrating the joy and together- ness of the holiday season.

 

This year, Compton has chosen "Around the World Holiday Celebration" as the theme celebrating the unique diversity of the city. Thousands of the community are expected to line the streets to watch exciting bands from all three Compton Unified School District High Schools, Long Beach Jordan High School, Inglewood High School, as well as appearances by Compton Mania, Eric “Lil Eazy E” Wright, drill teams, equestrian groups and more! 

 

Compton is honored to announce that the grand marshals for this year's parade are Steve Lacy and Aundrae Russell of Radio Free KJLH. Lacy was born and raised in Compton and is an award-winning Grammy-nominated musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. As the co-host of the

 

Popular KJLH morning show host Russell is no stranger to the Compton community as he has been in radio for more than 30 years, and a consistent advocate for positive change. 

​

Other notables expected to participate in the parade include: US Rep. Maxine Waters, Senator Steven Bradford, 

Assemblymember Mike Gipson, Mayor Emma and City councilmembers, Compton College Board of Trustees,

LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, and more than 1,000 local residents.

Everytable to host holiday fete celebrating 5 years

 

Everytable, the eatery serving health, affordable meals with two locations in Compton at 253 E. Compton Blvd., and 1111 E Artesia Blvd., will commemorate 5 years in the community with a holiday party, Friday, Dec. 15 from 12-3 p.m. As a thank you to its loyal customers, Everytable will offer storytelling and cookie decorating for kids, as well as a raffle prize and food samples. The festivity, which will occur at the 253 E. Compton Blvd. location, is free to the public.

Compton College District Board Meeting, Dec. 12

 

The next meeting of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Board Room, located in the Administration Building at 1111 E. Artesia Blvd., Compton.

​

All regular session Board meetings are open to the public. Closed session begins at 5:00 p.m.

First AME Church of Los Angeles, 2270 S. Harvard Blvd., Los Angeles, will host its annual Christmas Giveaway, Saturday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. The event will be the first for newly appointed Pastor Robert R. Shaw II, who was appointed shepherd of the historic church Oct. 29 this year. Local families line up annually to receive food, toys, and clothing, which adds to the holiday cheer.

 

On hand for the occasion will be Los Angeles Council representatives Heather Hutt and Marqueece Harris-Dawson of the 10th and 8th districts, respectively.
